An inmate at the Larry Smith Correctional Facility in Banning died after suffering a medical emergency, prompting authorities to investigate his death Friday.
Deputies found that George Ortiz, 62, of Corona was experiencing an unspecified medical emergency inside his cell Wednesday when custody staff and jail medical personnel immediately conducted livesaving measures until paramedics arrived a short time later. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
