Road Closures Lift After Train Derailment in Mecca

Roads near the scene of a Union Pacific train derailment in Mecca were reopened Friday, with cleanup work completed.

Nearly 20 rail cars derailed shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday in the area of Parkside Drive and Highway 111, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. Highway 111 between Bay and Parkside drives was closed while fire crews, law enforcement, a hazardous materials team and county Environmental Health officials responded.
