Whitmer announces 60+ apartments, commercial space in Detroit backed by state funding

DETROIT, MI – More than 60 new apartments and additional commercial space are planned in Detroit as part of two redevelopment projects backed by state funding, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced Wednesday.

The projects, supported through the state’s Revitalization and Placemaking (RAP) program and Build MI Community (BMC) initiative, are expected to generate more than $17.5 million in total investment while redeveloping vacant properties in the city’s Brush Park and Mexicantown neighborhoods.

“Support for these projects in highlights Michigan as the best place to grow and thrive,” Gov. Whitmer said in a statement. “Our growing economy and ‘Make it in Michigan’ strategy that invests in people, revitalizes places, and wins projects is paying off. Our population is growing, and we’ve been ranked as a top state for opportunity and doing business. Programs like RAP help us build on this progress, attract and retain talented workers, lower costs, build housing, and enrich our communities.”…
