Firearms found during smoke shop inspections

The Oakland Police Department Alcoholic Beverage Action Team inspected two smoke shops in Oakland on March 18, 2026. At the 3800 block of San Leandro St, officers found flavored tobacco, untaxed cigarettes, narcotics paraphernalia, and a firearm disguised as a cell phone.

A second inspection at the 2100 block of International Blvd uncovered more flavored tobacco, untaxed cigarettes, narcotics paraphernalia, and an illegal AR-style assault weapon. No arrests were made, and both cases were sent to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office and the Oakland City Attorney’s Office for review. The operation was funded by the California Department of Justice through a Proposition 56 Grant
