Council discusses lowering Myrtle Beach homeowners’ property tax credit

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WPDE) — The Myrtle Beach City Council discussed possible changes to the tourism development fee (TDF) during day one of the annual budget retreat.

No votes were taken, but council members expressed support for reducing homeowners’ property tax credit to 53.4%.

The tourism development fee is a 1% retail sales tax on items sold in the city limits of Myrtle Beach. Of that money, 80% goes to tourism advertising and the remaining 20% goes to property tax relief and tourism projects…
