Daniello’s, the speakeasy-style steakhouse tucked behind a candy shop on Vernon Street in downtown Roseville, has quietly called it quits after three years. The owners announced on social media that the restaurant was closing permanently, thanking guests for “three incredible years” and noting there would be no single last hurrah or final service.
As The Sacramento Bee reported, the farewell message confirmed that Daniello’s was permanently closed and again expressed gratitude to patrons. The Bee also noted that the owners did not respond to requests for comment about the decision to shut down.
A Candy-Shop Entrance And A Secret Password
According to Daniello’s website, entry into the speakeasy required a rotating secret passphrase, with the last listed password being “They’re Magically Delicious.” The operation leaned into the Prohibition-era vibe by using a penny-candy storefront as its cover, with the discreet entrance hidden inside Mikey & Madeline’s Candy Shoppe, as detailed in local listings and coverage.
Opened As An Experiential Draw In Late 2022
Daniello’s opened at 229 Vernon Street at the end of 2022 as a multi-level concept that paired a downstairs cocktail lounge with an upstairs steakhouse. The project from chef-owner Michael McDermott was designed as a reservation-focused, immersive dining experience rather than a casual walk-in spot.
Local coverage spotlighted the restaurant’s theatrical cocktails and whimsical menu, including a recent feature on Good Day Sacramento…
