Fire Rescue Department Eyes Increasing Fire Engine Staffing to Four Per Crew

The Loudoun County Fire and Rescue Department is slated to receive approval from the Board of Supervisors to hire enough firefighters to increase around-the-clock staffing on some fire engines from three to four crew members.

As part of LCFR’s budget request for fiscal year 2027, the department requested $2.19 million to hire 17 more firefighters to bring five engine companies to full-time four-person staffing. These companies are located at the Middleburg, Hamilton, Philomont, Lucketts, and Loudoun Heights stations. Those stations provide first-due response to 192 square miles of western Loudoun.

There are 19 engine companies in the county. Fire engines are the apparatus that carry hoses and water to extinguish fires and are considered the frontline of firefighting operations.
