Former Baja California governor charged with abuse of power and embezzlement

SAN DIEGO (Border Report) — Jaime Bonilla, the first governor of Baja California elected under the Morena Party, is now facing charges of embezzlement, and abuse of power and authority in connection with a controversial multi-million-dollar solar power plant that was never built.

The charges were brought during an arraignment earlier this week in Mexicali, Baja’s capital.

During the hearing, the State Attorney General’s Office presented 18 volumes of evidence gathered for the case against Bonilla.
