A baby delivered prematurely after a South Congress Avenue crash has died, marking Austin’s 16th traffic death of 2026, police said.
The pregnant passenger was in one of two vehicles involved in a crash in the 500 block of South Congress Avenue at 2:21 p.m. Saturday, March 14. She was taken to a hospital, where she later gave birth prematurely to Leonel Castillo Estrada. The driver of the other vehicle remained on scene, police said.
Leonel Castillo Estrada was pronounced dead Thursday, five days after his birth, police said.
