A baby dinosaur hidden inside rock reveals a first-of-its-kind discovery at UT Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A tiny baby dinosaur, no bigger than a turkey, is rewriting South Korea’s fossil record, and its secrets were revealed deep beneath the University of Texas at Austin.

The fossil, a baby dinosaur estimated to be less than 2 years old when it died, is the first dinosaur fossil from South Korea ever found with skull material — and the first new dinosaur species discovered in the country in more than 14 years.

“We name this dinosaur Doolysaurus,” said Jongyun Jung, a visiting postdoctoral researcher at UT Austin’s Jackson School of Geosciences.

“Our name came from the very iconic dinosaur character, iconic dinosaur animation character, Dooly the little dinosaur,” he said…
