Girl escapes kidnapping attempt in Grimes, suspect still at large

GRIMES, Iowa — A girl is safe at home after escaping an alleged kidnapping attempt in Grimes, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday night.

Officials received a call around 8:20 p.m. about the attempted abduction, which occurred near the intersection of S James Street and SW Kennybrook Drive.

A juvenile female was reportedly walking with her bike when a man volunteered to fix it. After she declined, the man tried to grab the girl and pull her into his vehicle, described as a large black SUV with running bars on the bottom and a damaged windshield wiper…
