New Orleans CAO updates City Council on budget crisis

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Chief Administrative Officer Joe Giarrusso pointed out to the council that cash flow projections without any action would see the city in the negative by April.

“We do not want to sow fear, but at the same time, we cannot sugar coat where we are right now,” Giarrusso said.

He says his team already has a plan to get through July, including one-time cash infusions totaling up to $100 million.

The infusions would come from various sources, including money from the Wisner Trust Fund and federal dollars from the American Rescue Plan. Giarrusso says much has already come through, but more is still needed…
