Aurora Opens Two High-Tech Fire Stations With Public Tours

Aurora is cutting the ribbon on not one but two new fire stations on Thursday, giving residents a first look at some of the most modern emergency facilities in the city. The ceremonies start at 9 a.m. at Station 13 and 11 a.m. at Station 9, with public tours lined up to roll out right after each ribbon cutting.

Station 13 Extends Coverage North Of I-88

Station 13, at 1701 Bilter Road, will be Aurora’s first fire station north of Interstate 88 and is expected to cut response times to the Northeast Side in half, according to the City of Aurora. Both new stations broke ground less than two years ago and are designed to strengthen responses to fires and medical calls across the city.

In a statement to the City of Aurora, Interim Fire Chief Kevin Nickel said, “Opening Station 13 and relocating Station 9 reinforces the City’s commitment to keeping its residents safe through enhanced response times.” City officials say Station 13 will feature specialized ventilation systems for both firefighters’ gear and vehicle exhaust, along with dedicated gear washers and dryers aimed at reducing carcinogen exposure for crews. Station 9 is moving from 2339 Diehl Road to 500 N Eola Road, and the city notes that the new layout will offer more storage for front-line units and better access to key areas of the building.

Station 9 Relocates To 500 N Eola Road

The Aurora Fire Department’s station listings now show Station 9 at 500 N Eola Road and Station 13 at 1701 Bilter Road, with apparatus assignments at the Eola site including Engine 9, Engine 99, and Truck 21, according to the Aurora Fire Department. The department’s online station map also provides directions and contact information for each location.

The City first announced the openings in a Facebook reel on its official account. The video confirms the ceremony schedule and both station stops, listing a ceremony window from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., with Station 13 at 1701 Bilter Road set for 9 a.m. and Station 9 at 500 N Eola Road set for 11 a.m., per the City of Aurora on Facebook.
