Insanity plea dropped in murder case reopened after WWL investigation; trial set for May

A murder case—closed for years before a WWL Louisiana Investigation revived it—took another turn in court Friday, as the woman accused of killing her boyfriend in a downtown New Orleans hotel room dropped the insanity defense she first raised three months ago.

Cache Shelton, who is charged with second-degree murder and obstruction of justice in the December 2022 shooting death of Nicolas Harrison, changed her plea from not guilty by reason of insanity back to her original plea of not guilty.

Shelton’s defense attorney, Kevin Boshea, made the change during a hearing before Orleans Parish Criminal District Judge Kimya Holmes, apparently so Shelton wouldn’t be jailed for missing a court-ordered mental evaluation…
