Aurora hiring for 2026 Special Census

The City of Aurora announced that its 2026 Special Census Initiative has returned to conduct a population count outside the normal census cycle. The effort follows a reported loss of about 17,000 residents in the 2020 Census, which reduced city revenue by over $4.3 million per year.

The city will focus on counting newly built and occupied areas to update its population total and support local services. The U.S. Census Bureau is hiring Field Supervisors, Field Representatives, and Office Clerks for the project, with pay ranging from $21 to $24.50 per hour plus benefits. The census is tentatively scheduled for late summer 2026
