1,000-plus acre wildfire near Colorado Springs prompts mandatory evacuations

While officials reported partial containment of a fire burning along Highway 115 between Colorado Springs and Penrose on Thursday morning, containment was lost later that day as the fire grew from 80 acres to 670, and as of Friday, to 1,067 acres. At last report, containment remained at zero.

In the latest update, the fire, dubbed 24 Fire, has now prompted mandatory evacuations for those in a two mile radius of the blaze, with the evacuations taking place around County Road F45 and State Highway 115, per the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office. A pre-evacuation notice has also been issued for those outside of the two-mile radius, but within three miles.

Those under evacuation can head to Pathfinder Park. Deputies of the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office are going door-to-door in the evacuation zone. Those who evacuate prior to deputy arrival have been asked to leave a note on the door that includes resident names and their evacuation status…
