National group will erect a memorial to Revolutionary War at Newberg park

On July 4, the United States will celebrate 250 years of freedom from tyranny. It will be recognized in myriad ways across the nation, including by a local group directly descended from the men who fought for this nation’s independence.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution are signifying the semi-quincentennial by erecting America 250 Patriot Markers at sites around the country. Included is one set for installation in Newberg at a park already known for recognizing those who, as President Abraham Lincoln said in the Gettysburg Address, gave “the last full measure of devotion.”

The engraved stone marker will be erected in Memorial Park to honor Revolutionary War patriots and will stand next to a larger memorial recognizing local men who died in battles since the Civil War…
