Fairfax casino bill heads to governor’s desk

A bill that would allow a casino to be built in Fairfax County is now headed to Gov. Abigail Spanberger’s desk. Vienna officials and community organizations opposed to the bill are urging Spanberger to veto it.

The Virginia General Assembly passed the measure this week, advancing legislation that would allow a casino in the county as part of a coordinated mixed-use development of at least 1.5 million square feet.

While earlier proposals focused on Tysons, the version passed by the Senate does not limit the project to a specific location, allowing a casino anywhere in Fairfax County that meets the development criteria…
