FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – Joan LeGrand started volunteering at Parkview Health in Fort Wayne in the 1970s. She has put in more than 10,000 hours, which equates to more than 416 solid days of giving back.
Dena Jacquay, chief administrative officer at Parkview Health, presented LeGrand with an award to mark the milestone on Thursday during Parkview’s Volunteer Listening Tour. LeGrand was also surprised with one of her original applications from 1975.
Recognition for decades of dedication
“Joan is amazing. She has served at several of our locations. I think her legacy speaks for itself, not only in years, but in the stories that she has and the relationships that she has built,” Parkview’s Heather Schoegler said.
LeGrand remembers being promoted from counting aspirin to pushing a wheelchair on her first day decades ago. She said volunteering keeps her going, especially after the death of her husband in 2020…
