Strong winds caused school closures and schedule adjustments throughout Guilford County.

The severe weather brought high-speed winds combined with heavy rain which forced schools in Guilford County and nearby districts to close their doors on Monday. Officials cited unsafe travel conditions for school buses as the primary reason for the closure.

The Greensboro area experienced storm activity throughout the day which produced strong wind gusts that created risks of falling debris and dangerous road conditions. Areas of the region received tornado warnings which resulted in emergency alerts being sent to residents’ cell phones. The radar warning showed rotation that could create tornadoes but no tornadoes touched down in the immediate area.
