Marshall County contractor indicted for $240K fraud, faces multiple felony charges

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ala. — A local contractor was arrested Thursday on multiple felony charges, including first-degree theft by deception, first-degree theft of property, and first-degree receiving stolen property. Jarod Reed, owner of Reed Construction in Arab, was indicted earlier this month by a Marshall County Grand Jury.

Authorities say Reed posed as a licensed contractor and defrauded two business partners out of roughly $240,000 beginning in January 2025. Investigators say he created fake license numbers and documents, performed little of the contracted work, and delivered substandard craftsmanship on additions to convenience stores in Scant City and Decatur. He is accused of taking about $80,000 for the Decatur project.

In addition, Reed allegedly sold heavy equipment and vehicles without proper titles, including some items rented from other companies…
