Lexington family fights for detained man’s release after scheduling error

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – A Kentucky man detained by ICE has been held inside a detention center for nearly five months, and his attorney says a scheduling error may have cost him his chance at freedom.

For nearly 24 years, Lexington has been home to the man identified only as Emilio. His attorney says Emilio was arrested on a DUI charge in October, and he’s been in ICE custody since then.

Through an interpreter, Emilio’s wife said she is very depressed, she barely sleeps or eats, and it’s affecting her son.

Legal challenges mount
