Cuyahoga County taxpayers were given a guarantee: a quarter-cent sales tax, raised without a public vote in spite a campaign promise to put it on the ballot, would be dedicated solely to building a new jail and renovating the courthouse.
That was the deal the County Council locked into legislation. That was the commitment. Now, County Executive Chris Ronayne wants to rewrite the terms, and the Today in Ohio podcast crew predicts the move will further destroy public trust in government.
