Milwaukee’s lakefront is about to pick up a Chicago accent. The Vig, a Chicago-based 1950s-themed sports parlor, is slated to open this summer on the second floor of The Couture, bringing lakefront dining and late-night hours to the high-rise’s retail podium. License filings and active construction at 909 E. Michigan St. indicate the buildout is in progress and could deliver the first major public restaurant in the 44-story tower. If the Milwaukee Common Council signs off, the spot is expected to serve burgers, craft cocktails, live music and wall-to-wall televised sports for both residents and visitors, as per Urban Milwaukee.
According to Urban Milwaukee, The Vig has submitted license applications for its Milwaukee location and is aiming for a June debut. The outlet reports that architecture firm Barker/Nestor is steering a buildout of roughly 8,500 square feet of interior space plus a 2,000-square-foot outdoor patio, with construction expected to wrap in May. Urban Milwaukee also notes that plans call for live entertainment, DJs and big-screen TVs locked in on game days.
Plans and size
Local reporting is not entirely in sync on the exact footprint. Milwaukee Record cites a license filing that describes roughly 10,800 square feet of space with a 2,000-square-foot balcony and lists June 1 as the proposed opening date. The Vig’s own contact page confirms the address at 909 E. Michigan St. and the second-floor location inside The Couture through The Vig.
The Couture’s retail push
OnMilwaukee reports that the 44-story tower includes 322 residential units and about 42,837 square feet of retail and restaurant space, and that leasing began in early 2024. Developers have positioned the podium level for amenity-style tenants such as salons, restaurants and service businesses that can cater to both the building’s residents and the general public, a long-promised piece of the project finally starting to materialize.
Ryan Marks, co-owner of Legacy Hospitality, told WTMJ he is eager to bring The Vig’s 1950s-inspired menu and sports-parlor atmosphere to Milwaukee’s lakefront. Local coverage notes that the concept currently operates two locations in Chicago and markets itself as a refined kitchen and sports parlor that pairs classic cocktails with comfort food, a formula the group is now testing across state lines…
