TULSA, Okla. – Tulsa Police are bringing back its mounted patrol unit 16 years after it was eliminated due to budget issues.
The team of 6 to 8 officers on horseback will work special events with large crowds like Tulsa Tough, the Route 66 Marathon and Juneteenth.
This will be a hybrid unit, meaning all of the officers will work their normal duties unless they are needed to work mounted patrol for special events. Each officer provides their own horse and is responsible for taking care of the horse, so it does not cost the city any extra money.
