Coldest to Hottest: Mountain West

Part three in our look at all 10 FBS conferences and ranking head coaches from coldest to hottest. Today we look at the new look Mountain West Conference. I started with the Big 12 and then followed up with the rejuvenated Pac-12. Up next will be the ACC.

10. Jason Eck, New Mexico

2025 Record: 9–4, Years at School: 2, Overall Record: 35-17

Eck is the undisputed king of security in Albuquerque. After delivering the Lobos’ first bowl appearance in a decade and a signature win over UCLA, he has total administrative alignment.

The “local hero” has officially turned the corner. By returning the “Run and Shoot” to its former glory and securing a winning season in 2025, Chang has validated the administration’s patience.

His deep cultural ties to the islands and tangible on-field progress give him a massive buffer as the program enters the 2026 campaign.

2025 Record: 10-4, Years at School: 2, Overall Record: 113-65

Mullen’s seat is safe because he represents the highest ceiling for the Rebels. In just one year, he used his Power Four experience to stabilize a roster in transition and keep UNLV in the bowl conversation. With the school’s eyes on a future conference jump, Mullen is the “big name” they are banking on to lead that charge.

7. Ken Niumatalolo, San Jose State

2025 Record: 3–9, Years at School: 3, Overall Record: 119-98
