HONOLULU (KHON2) — Scroll, swipe, repeat. New ideas shape daily life, yet Hawaiʻi lags behind much of the nation in building them as seen in a new report that shows Hawaiʻi is struggling to keep pace in innovation.
The report from WalletHub ranked Hawaiʻi #37 overall in innovation. The state earned a score of 33.58 on the WalletHub State Innovation Index. It placed #30 in human capital and #45 in innovation environment.
The study reviewed all 50 states and the District of Columbia and used 25 indicators tied to innovation. These included:
- Science.
- Technology.
- ngineering and math, or STEM.
- Workforce share.
- Research spending.
- Number of tech companies.
