An unconventional off-road vehicle from a Utah-based manufacturer is drawing attention for blending electric power with advanced off-road technology. The Vanderhall Brawley GTS, a fully electric four-seat 4×4 utility terrain vehicle, delivers performance figures typically associated with high-performance road cars while maintaining the rugged capability expected of a purpose-built off-roader.
The Brawley GTS is powered by a quad-motor electric drivetrain, with one motor dedicated to each wheel. Together the system produces 404 horsepower and 488 pound-feet of torque. With a curb weight between approximately 2,700 and 3,000 pounds, the compact vehicle offers a strong power-to-weight ratio that contributes to its performance both on and off the trail.
Electric power comes from a 300-volt architecture paired with a 40 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack capable of delivering around 140 miles of driving range. An optional 60 kilowatt-hour battery, available exclusively on the GTS model, extends the estimated range beyond 200 miles. Charging options include DC fast charging and a six-kilowatt onboard charger, while regenerative braking captures energy during operation and feeds it back into the battery pack.
The vehicle’s aluminum unibody chassis is designed to keep overall weight low while maintaining rigidity. The battery pack is mounted low within the structure, helping lower the center of gravity and improve stability during off-road driving. Dual A-arm suspension is used at each corner, providing 21 inches of wheel travel through long-travel dampers. The Brawley rides on 35-inch mud-terrain tires mounted to 18-inch aluminum wheels and offers 18 inches of ground clearance.
Several electronic drive modes help distinguish the Brawley GTS from traditional gas-powered UTVs. The eCrab mode allows diagonal movement for maneuvering through tight spaces. The eSteer system enables four-wheel steering for improved turning capability, while the eTank mode allows the vehicle to pivot in place through opposing wheel rotation.
