Organization launched to assure arts thrive in DeKalb

Past and present DeKalb County officials along with artists, cultural leaders, educators, and other community members gathered on March 12 to celebrate the launch of Arts DeKalb—the DeKalb County Council for the Arts.

The celebration, held at Metro City Church on Briarcliff Road, a stone’s throw from Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, came soon after DeKalb County Chief Executive Officer Lorraine CochranJohnson signed an executive order formally creating an official advisory body dedicated to strengthening and promoting arts and cultural development across the county.

“The arts reflect who we are as a community and help shape who we aspire to become,” Cochran-Johnson said. “By establishing the DeKalb Arts Council, we are creating a formal, strategic framework to elevate creativity, expand opportunity, and ensure that arts and culture remain central to reimagining DeKalb.”…
