Former Alabama college student wants to withdraw guilty plea in killing of beloved classmate

A 25-year-old man who pleaded guilty to the shooting death of his former classmate at Alabama State University now wants to withdraw that plea.

Ivry Hall, formerly lauded for escaping a life of inner-city violence, pleaded guilty last month in the 2020 slaying of 22-year-old Adam “Belle” Dowdell, a beloved graduate of Montevallo High School who was a sophomore at ASU when he was killed.

“The plea was entered rapidly, immediately after a critical evidentiary ruling, amid confusion regarding the nature of the sentencing guidelines and under significant strategic disruption,” Hall’s attorney, Brandon Wooten, wrote in his court motion…
