FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — Community members, city leaders, and residents gathered Saturday morning for the return of the State of the Sixth District address, marking the first time the event has been held in several years.
The meeting gave residents on Fort Wayne’s southeast side an opportunity to ask questions, voice concerns, and hear updates from city leadership. Among the top issues raised were the need for more job opportunities for young people and improved language services to better connect the growing Burmese population with local government.
Several city officials and community leaders spoke during the event, including Fort Wayne Mayor (D) Sharon Tucker, along with Jonathan Leist (Director Community Development ), Paul Spoelhof (Deputy Director of Planning & Policy), Kelly Lundberg (Deputy Director Housing & Neighborhood Services), Chris Blauvelt (Deputy Director of Neighborhood Code Enforcement), Dan Baisden (Department Head of Neighborhoods), Fort Wayne Police Department Chief PJ Smith, Matthew Wirtz (Board of Stormwater Chair), Shan Gunawardena (Director of Public Works), and Steve McDaniel (Director of Parks & Recreation)…
