McGhee Tyson got a boost for doing its runway the right way.
The Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority Board of Commissioners approved acceptance on two FFA grants for the reconstruction of Runway 5 Right 23 Left also known as 5R/23L and approved a corresponding change order with Cleary Construction for the Phase II work on the runway closest to the airport terminal during its March meeting on Wednesday at McGhee Tyson.
The phased project is designed for the airport to complete sections of the rehabilitation then reopen the runway for use for several months while the next phase progresses out of design and implementation planning to minimize the time when the facility operates with only one runway…
