$7 Million in Stolen Goods from 36 Companies, Including Amazon and Costco, Recovered in Major Cargo Theft Bust

A multi-agency investigation into an organized cargo theft ring has culminated in the recovery of approximately $7 million in stolen merchandise and $1 million in illicit cash. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) announced the results of the months-long operation following the execution of 13 search warrants across Southern California.

Between December 2025 and February 2026, detectives from the LASD Major Crimes Bureau’s Cargo Criminal Apprehension Team targeted locations in Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties. The raids dismantled a sophisticated network responsible for interceptingshipments destined for some of the nation’s largest retailers.

Authorities confirmed the arrest of nine individuals connected to the operation. The suspects face multiple felony charges, including:

  • Grand theft cargo
  • Money laundering
  • Receiving stolen property

The investigation revealed that the criminal enterprise targeted cargo shipments from 36 prominent companies. Major brands impacted by the thefts include Amazon, Costco, Sony, Disney, and JB Hunt, as well as retailers like T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, and Dollar General.

The sheer variety of the seized inventory underscores the scale of the organization’s reach. According to the LASD, the recovered items spanned several consumer categories:

  • Electronics: Sony soundbars, LG microwaves, Hisense televisions, and Ring security cameras.
  • Industrial & Home: Milwaukee and Craftsman tools, Pentair pool equipment, and Mastercool AC units.
  • Lifestyle & Apparel: Disney clothing, Wolff shoes, and high-end cosmetics.
  • Specialty Goods: Monster Energy drinks, Classica Cordials premium liquor, and Jellycat plush toys.
