Vigil Draws Crowd in Santa Barbara to Protest Sable Pipeline Restart

About 150 people gathered Thursday evening at the Dolphin Fountain near Stearns Wharf to protest the abrupt restart of offshore oil transport along the Santa Barbara coast by Sable Offshore Corp., which the company says it undertook under a federal order.

Organizers billed the event—titled “Resist and Rise: A Community Vigil to Protect Our Coast from Sable Pipeline”—as a rapid response to the restart of the Santa Ynez Pipeline System.

The vigil began at 6:30 p.m. on March 19 at Cabrillo Boulevard and State Street and was organized by UCSB and local high school students alongside the Society of Fearless Grandmothers. Many in the crowd wore red T-shirts reading “Don’t Enable Sable” and carried signs that stated “Stop the Zombie Pipeline.”…
