(CBS12) — Palm Beach County Fire Rescue crews pulled off a complex rooftop rescue in Polo Oaks, where firefighters reached an injured patient on top of a building, began treatment right on the roof, and used Ladder 57 to lower the person safely to the ground in a Stokes basket.
According to PBCFR, firefighters responded to a patient suffering a traumatic injury on a rooftop in Polo Oaks last week. Upon arrival, paramedics immediately began care on the roof, stabilizing the patient before attempting any movement — a critical step whenever injuries could worsen during extraction.
To get the patient down safely, crews used Ladder 57 as a highpoint anchor system, securing the individual inside a Stokes basket, a rescue device designed to keep a patient immobilized during technical operations.
