Gov. Stein announces $8.5M in small business grants for western NC

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — More money is headed to small businesses in western North Carolina to help them continue recovery after Hurricane Helene.

Governor Josh Stein announced nearly 8.5 million dollars in a third round of small business grants. This round is focused on small businesses infrastructure.

“Even if a business itself is doing fine, if a sidewalk in front of that business is broken or if the parking lot is closed because of funding, then that business will suffer, even though they themselves are doing just fine,” Representative Lindsey Prather (D-Buncombe) said.

The Governor’s Office said the funding will help 13 projects throughout western North Carolina. In a statement, the governor said small businesses can’t be open to customers without reliable infrastructure…
