Nearly 150 volunteers turn out for Johns Island Spring Clean Up Day

JAMES ISLAND, S.C. (WCSC) — Nearly 150 volunteers united for Johns Island Spring Clean Up Day this weekend.

Teams fanned out to pick up roadside litter along six of the island’s busiest roads. The inaugural effort was organized by Charleston City Councilman Jim McBride with support from city and county staff, along with Keep Charleston Beautiful and Adopt-A-Highway. Community groups and local businesses, including HCA Healthcare Trident Hospital, also pitched in with the shared goal of making Johns Island cleaner and greener.

“Because the roads are hard to clean up, there’s a lot of trash accumulating on a lot of roads on Johns Island,” McBride said. “So we worked together, came together as a team, city, county, and volunteers, to do six locations at one time. It’s the first time that’s ever been done before.”…
