Alert Day: Severe weather watches, warnings in effect across Central Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — It’s another very warm day across the region, and changes are on the way this evening as a cold front moves through.

Temperatures have surged into the 80s this afternoon, and that warmth will help set the stage for a few showers and thunderstorms later today. Storm development is expected to hold off until around or after sunset, with the best chance for activity developing near and east of the I-70 corridor, especially across central Ohio. While not everyone will see storms, a few could become strong this evening, with large hail as the primary concern. The overall severe threat looks somewhat limited in coverage, but any storm that does develop could produce hail, even into the late evening hours. As the front moves through overnight, showers and storms will gradually come to an end, and cooler, drier air will begin to move in.

Behind the front, temperatures will return closer to normal for the start of the week. Highs on Monday will drop back into the upper 40s to mid 50s, and it will turn even colder Monday night into Tuesday morning with temperatures falling below freezing, especially north of I-70 and in more rural areas. After that brief cooldown, temperatures will begin to climb again through the middle of the week…
