WNBA Icon Candace Parker Reveals Her Secret for Conquering Hectic Mornings

Former WNBA superstar and mother of three, Candace Parker, has shared the key habit that helps her navigate even the most chaotic mornings: an early workout.

At 39, Parker, who retired from professional basketball in 2024, understands the demanding juggle faced by many parents. With three children – daughter Lailaa and sons Airr and Hartt – her mornings can often be a whirlwind of school and work preparations.

“I love slow mornings, but if I need a jolt because obviously the kids have school and work and all those things, I usually get up and work out,” Parker recently revealed. Her go-to routine often involves a combination of cardio and strength training.

“I’m a big Peloton person, so I like to do that and lift. I also use the sauna quite a bit,” she explained, detailing her fitness regimen.

Beyond physical activity, Parker notes that even small personal choices can reflect her mood and energy for the day. “It’s so funny because my friends can tell if I’m having a great day or not by whether my baby hair is done,” she quipped.

Parker’s approach to wellness has matured over the years. Reflecting on her career, she admits she would have advised her younger self to embrace more self-compassion.

“As most athletes do, I kept moving the goalposts. Sometimes, it’s okay to stop and smell the roses and realize this is what you worked your whole life for,” she said.

She expressed admiration for the current generation’s focus on mental well-being and self-care, calling it “inspiring.”

Her dedication to fitness isn’t new. Even during her playing days, Parker emphasized consistent workouts, stating in 2023 that she prioritized “really taking care of my body and making sure I’m getting my lift in” during the offseason.

And while she’s a seasoned athlete, Parker has found new challenges in different forms of exercise. She once revealed that Pilates proved surprisingly difficult.

“Pilates is probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life,” she confessed. “I walked in there like, ‘I’m strong!

I lift weights.’ This grandma [instructor] killed me, so I have tremendous respect for Pilates.”
