NWS said Borger saw temperatures climb to 99 degrees, surpassing the previous record of 95 degrees, set on March 20, 2026, and March 27, 1971. Records have been kept in Borger since 1949.

Meanwhile, Dalhart reached 96 degrees, topping its previous March high of 92 degrees recorded on March 19, 2017, and March 20, 2026. Climate data for Dalhart dates back to 1948.

The unseasonable heat comes as spring begins, raising concerns about early-season drought conditions and increased fire risk across the region.
