Graduation cards sought to surprise fallen soldier’s son: ‘Help give him some joy’

DES MOINES, Iowa (KCCI) – Family friends are collecting as many graduation cards as possible in hopes of brightening the day of a high school senior whose mother was one of six soldiers killed in a drone strike in Kuwait earlier this month.

Angelina Grooms has fond memories of her high school friend, Joey Amor, in their hometown of Apex, North Carolina. In the years since graduation, many moved away, but recently, tragedy brought them back together.

“He and I were part of chorus and drama, and we did all the musicals together,” Grooms said. “I got a phone call from one of our chorus members, who I hadn’t spoken to in 20 years, who was crying and said, ‘Oh my gosh, I haven’t talked to you in so long, but I think Joey’s wife just passed.’”…
