March heat wave draws Coloradans to the water, boosts seasonal business

LONGMONT, Colo. (KDVR) — A historic March heat wave sweeping across Colorado is sending residents outdoors in search of relief, with many trading winter sports for time on the water.

At Union Reservoir in Longmont, boaters, anglers and paddleboarders gathered Saturday as temperatures climbed into the 80s. Even dogs joined their owners along the shoreline, enjoying the unseasonal warmth.

Denver weather: A brief break from the heat on Sunday

“This is what we do all summer,” said Suzie Wilcox, a paddleboarder at the reservoir. “It’s exciting. The ski stuff obviously got cut short, but I love to paddle.”

The surge in warm weather has also provided an unexpected boost for one seasonal business. Rocky Mountain Paddleboard held a soft opening this weekend, offering paddleboard and boat rentals earlier than ever before…
