Suspect leads high-speed chase, crashes into officer’s car before arrest: Salem police

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A suspect was arrested after leading a high-speed chase in downtown Salem and crashing into an officer’s car, police said.

Salem resident Richard Wilson, 48, was arrested just after noon on Saturday and accused of several charges, including hit and run.

Salem police said they initially spotted a stolen vehicle being driven through downtown. Officers “followed it from a distance while others positioned themselves with stop sticks,” or tire deflation devices.

“The vehicle suddenly turned into a nearby parking lot at Commercial Street and Owens Street SE, pushing another vehicle out of the way before exiting onto Owens,” the Salem Police Department said in a press release. “It then turned north onto Liberty Street and drove at a high rate of speed towards downtown.”…
