BGE, Delmarva Power and Pepco share Gov. Wes Moore’s focus on addressing rising energy costs and protecting Maryland families and businesses. At a time when customers are facing higher costs for everyday essentials, we support and are actively engaged in solutions that put customers first and strengthen affordability.
We will continue to review the legislation to ensure the proposed measures would not have any unintended consequences for our customers. We ask that legislators work closely with energy industry experts to ensure that none of the measures being proposed would increase customer costs, introduce risks to safety and reliability or jeopardize economic development. Deferring necessary work can lead to more disruptive and expensive outcomes, as Maryland has seen when critical infrastructure is allowed to deteriorate.
Addressing energy costs requires partnership. Our utilities already play a direct role in supporting affordability, including serving as a primary driver of Maryland’s limited‑income discount rate and providing direct relief through our $22.5 million Customer Relief Fund that has helped more than 40,000 Maryland customers. We’re also engaged with lawmakers, regulators and advocates to advance reasonable policy changes that would help solve that state’s electricity generation crisis to further ease costs for customers…
