IKEA Expands Across North America, Bringing Swedish Style and Savings Closer to Home

The world’s largest furniture chain, IKEA, is set to make a significant splash in North America in 2026, with plans to add 10 new brick-and-mortar locations and several “Plan & order points” across the continent. This expansion will notably increase its presence from the current 77 stores, bringing the beloved Swedish brand closer to customers in various communities.

Interim CEO Rob Olson emphasizes that these new locations are designed to build momentum towards making IKEA more affordable, accessible, and sustainable for shoppers. Despite navigating a challenging economic landscape, IKEA reported strong performance in 2025, largely by assisting consumers in finding budget-friendly furniture and home essentials.

Many of these new establishments will feature a “smaller footprint” concept, departing from the traditional expansive warehouse model. These more compact stores aim to integrate IKEA into urban centers and make shopping more convenient, often offering larger furniture items for online ordering with free in-store pickup.

Here’s a look at where IKEA is setting up shop:

Alabama

  • Huntsville: 6125 University Place Drive
The newest IKEA store officially opened its doors at the end of February in Huntsville’s University Place Shopping Center.

The grand opening was marked by IKEA’s commitment to the community, including a $10,000 donation to Crisis Services of North Alabama. Early visitors were treated to giveaways, and the first 100 children received soft toys.

Arizona

  • Phoenix: 4643 E. Cactus Road

Phoenix residents can anticipate a new IKEA moving into the former Hobby Lobby location at the Village Square shopping center. This will be one of the new, smaller-format stores, designed for efficiency.

Larger furniture pieces like sofas and beds will be available for online ordering with convenient in-store pickup.

California

  • **Culver City: 3225 Helms Ave. **

IKEA is taking over the former space of luxury furniture retailer HD Buttercup, strategically aiming to bring the brand closer to urban customers. This smaller store will still boast an impressive selection, featuring approximately 3,000 items, 600 furniture pieces, and a wide array of home accessories.

Colorado

  • Fort Collins: 4250 Corbett Drive
The announcement of a new IKEA in Fort Collins came as a pleasant surprise to the city. The 64,000-square-foot facility will occupy the former Urban Air Adventure Park location and is anticipated to open its doors this fall.

Illinois

  • **Gurnee: 6170 W. Grand Ave.

**
The Swedish furniture giant is experimenting with a new format at Gurnee Mills Mall.

This smaller concept store is designed to enhance accessibility and convenience for urban centers, situated about 40 miles from the nearest existing IKEA across the Wisconsin border.

Oklahoma

  • **Tulsa: 7309 S. Olympia Ave.

**
Good news for Tulsa residents!

The days of traveling to Texas or Kansas City for IKEA’s great furniture deals are nearing an end. The new store will be located in the former Belk clothing store space at the Tulsa Hills Shopping Center.

Texas

  • Rockwall: 1801 E. Interstate 30
  • Dallas: 8080 Park Lane
  • Webster: 19801 Gulf Freeway

The Dallas market celebrated a grand opening on March 11, complete with giveaways including coffee, cinnamon buns, and other treats. These Texas locations are part of the smaller-footprint store initiative, making shopping more accessible in larger cities that can't accommodate the traditional large-warehouse stores.

The Webster location is expected to open in late summer.

Virginia

  • Chantilly: 4320 Chantilly Shopping Center
Following the closure of the Dulles Expo Center late last year, the site will soon be transformed into a new IKEA location.

This means residents of Chantilly will no longer have to journey all the way to Woodbridge for their IKEA fix. While an official opening date is pending, the store is expected to welcome customers this spring.

Other IKEA Locations: Plan & Order Points

In addition to these 10 new stores, IKEA is also rolling out “Plan & order points” in 2026. These smaller-format locations allow customers to collaborate with staff on designing spaces and placing orders for home delivery, offering a tailored planning experience without the full warehouse shopping trip.

  • California: 1200 Auto Park Way (Escondido)
  • California: 5755 Johnson Dr.

(Pleasanton)

  • California: 585 Saturn Blvd.

(San Diego)

  • Georgia: 378 Newnan Crossing (Newnan)
  • Kentucky: 7735 Mall Rd. (Florence)
  • Pennsylvania: 1111 W. Baltimore Pike (Media)

The IKEA Experience

What truly makes IKEA special, allowing it to thrive through various economic climates, extends beyond its flat-pack furniture. Each shopping location also features a beloved restaurant, serving classic Swedish cuisine favorites like savory meatballs or fluffy Swedish pancakes – both famously accompanied by lingonberry jam. This unique blend of practical home solutions and a taste of Sweden continues to draw customers, ensuring IKEA remains a beloved destination for shoppers nationwide.
