Record breaking heat followed by a few severe storms Sunday night

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – Record breaking temperatures expected this weekend ahead of a cold front Sunday night. We are on alert Sunday night for the potential for isolated storms, a few may be severe with wind and hail as our main hazards. Temperatures will fall back down to around average for the start of the work week.

Sunday will have our best shot at record breaking heat! Highs will climb into the mid 80s. The previous record was 80 set back in 1988. Clouds will increase Sunday evening ahead of a cold front. We are on alert for the potential of isolated storms with a marginal to slight risk of some severe storms. Our main hazards would be hail and damaging wind gusts. The likely timeframe for storms would be from 8PM – 12AM. There are limiting factors going into this severe weather potential, such as a strong capping inversion, which may prevent any storms from forming at all. However, more models are now indicating that cap would erode enough for storms to initialize. Nonetheless, widespread severe weather is not expected…
