Community celebrates return of local monks from months-long “Walk for Peace”

HENRIETTA, N.Y. (WROC) —On Sunday, a welcome home celebration for two Buddhist monks, Yathan Khamvanh Tickaviro and Ronald Gunavaro from Henrietta, who participated in the 2,300-mile “Walk For Peace.

Beginning in Texas, Buddhist Monks participating in the collective effort joined at various points throughout communities in nine states, including Louisiana, Mississippi, and ended almost 4 months later in Washington, D.C.

The Wat Pa Lao Temple held Sunday’s celebration, honoring Monk Tickaviro and Monk Gunavaro’s return, celebrating them as the only two monks from New York State who participated in the walk.
