The famous Syracuse train station with the plaster human figures is losing its iconic smokestack

Syracuse, N.Y. – Seven months after the city declared it a major safety threat, a smokestack at the historic Syracuse train station known for its plaster human figures is coming down.

Brick by brick, workers have been taking down the 90-year-old smokestack at the former New York Central Railroad building for the past two weeks. They’ve got two weeks to go before it’s all down.

City officials ordered the structure at 400 Burnet Ave. demolished last August after code inspectors noticed that bricks were falling off it and landing just a few feet from the street…
