NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi and North Central Bronx are now offering two new minimally invasive vascular surgeries that were not previously available in the Bronx. The Transcarotid Artery Revascularization (TCAR) procedure helps prevent strokes by clearing blockages in arteries leading to the brain, while the Percutaneous Transmural Arterial Bypass (PTAB) procedure removes blockages in leg arteries to help prevent amputations.
Both surgeries are performed by Dr. Hayavadhan Thuppal, a board-certified vascular surgeon with nine years of experience. TCAR patients usually stay just one night in the hospital, and PTAB offers faster recovery and fewer complications than open surgery…
