Injured hiker rescued from Cumberland Trail after ankle crushed by rock, flown to Erlanger

Saturday evening, several emergency service agencies responded to a call for an injured hiker who had badly hurt his ankle on the Cumberland Trail, according to the Hamilton County Office of Emergency Management (OEM).

Signal Mountain Fire and Walden’s Ridge Emergency Service (WRES) responded to 22 Signal Point Circle after hikers with the injured man called in at at 6 p.m., arriving 15 minutes later.

After navigating steep and rocky terrain, emergency personnel reached the hiker at 7:30 p.m. The group with the man told rescuers that a large rock had crushed his ankle.

After finding that his injuries were too severe to carry him out of the woods, a helicopter response was initiated by Hamilton County OEM…
